NHS Library and Knowledge Services – working in partnership with commissioners
Library and Knowledge Services (LKS) are an integral part of the core business of the NHS. We enable staff to have the relevant skills and knowledge to make evidence based decisions, resulting in excellent patient care. LKS offer a unique service to commissioners that complement and build on the work of other commissioning support units (CSUs) to provide comprehensive business intelligence.
Services add value by:
- searching and gathering evidence on the topics of your choice
- developing bulletins and alerts to keep you up to date with new research guidelines, best practice and policies
- tracing and supplying specific publications you request
- assisting staff in their professional and personal development through study skills, a dedicated learning environment and supplying texts.
Current awareness services
We provide a daily current awareness service sent by e-mail, as well as monthly bulletins on specific healthcare topics relevant to commissioners. The daily bulletin includes items relating to healthcare that have been reported locally and nationally with internet links to the stories. Also included are items that the Department of Health, NHS England, Public Health England and other organisations have added to their websites each day. Supply us with your email address if you would like to receive these bulletins.
Literature searches
We have access to a wide selection of bibliographic databases and can undertake comprehensive literature reviews to provide the evidence to support service redesign. We can also supply the full text of any articles that are cited in the search. Discuss with us your needs.
Document supply
We hold a small journal and book collection but are also able to obtain articles and books for you either electronically or from other organisations. If you have a reference you need to obtain then let us know.
Athens administration
Sign up for a NHS Athens account to access a wide variety of electronic resource. Search for national, regional and local electronic content at NICE Evidence Services and on the Healthcare Databases Advanced search pages. These accounts are administered by Public Health Suffolk on your behalf. If you need help in applying for account, in using it effectively, or have forgotten your login details, then contact us.
Training
Training in effective literature searching, finding the evidence and critical appraisal can all be arranged at your place of work. Let us know your requirements.
